Faculty of 1000

The core service of Faculty of 1000 (F1000) identifies and evaluates the most important articles in biology and medical research publications. The selection process comprises a peer-nominated global “Faculty” of the world’s leading scientists and clinicians who rate the best of the articles they read and explain their importance.

Launched in 2002, F1000 was conceived as a collaboration of 1000 international Faculty Members. Although the name stuck, the remit of our service continues to grow and the Faculty now numbers more than 10,000 experts whose evaluations form a fully searchable resource identifying the best research available. Faculty Members and their evaluations are organized into over 40 Faculties (subjects), which are further subdivided into over 300 Sections.

On average, 1500 new evaluations are published each month; this corresponds to approximately the top 2% of all published articles in the biological and medical sciences.

The Scientist is F1000’s magazine of the life sciences, which offers:

• Daily news - science reporting at its sharpest, including video interviews and debates
• Feature articles - opinions and syntheses of the latest big ideas in biology and related disciplines, drawing from F1000 Reports content and written by researchers and science journalists
• Profiles of Faculty members and other top investigators, focusing on the successes and challenges in their labs
• Naturally Selected blog on the science and culture of biology and medicine, written by scientists and reporters

RMIT Publishing

RMIT Publishing is the largest specialist provider of research from Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific region. Through its Informit databases and search platform, RMT Publishing makes it easy for people to search, research and discover the content they need for better results.

Informit content is sourced from over 500 publishers, associations and peak professional bodies and made available across over 70 bibliographic, full text and media databases. Content includes peer reviewed journals, specialist journals, monographs, reports, conference papers as well as bibliographic indexes – collated with a focus on regional perspectives and otherwise hard-to-find research.

• Informit Indexes
  Since 1990 RMIT Publishing has offered electronic access to Australian academic content via more than 70 index databases referencing thousands of Australian scholarly journals. The number of Index compilations has grown over the years to encompass most subject areas.
• Informit Plus Text databases
  Since 2000, RMIT Publishing has combined the authoritative bibliographic information of leading Informit Index databases with full text links to thousands of articles from hundreds of leading Australasian journals. RMIT Publishing has negotiated electronic Rights to journal articles from over 800 publications linking to five of our most popular index databases. These products are published as Informit Plus Text databases.
• Informit Collections
  Early in 2005 RMIT Publishing launched the Informit e-Library service providing cover-to-cover access to full text of online journal articles, monographs, textbooks, conference proceedings, research reports, working papers and other literature. Informit Collections builds on the database publishing strengths developed by RMIT Publishing over the past 15 years.
